Skin Resurfacing and Rejuvenation / Acne Treatments
Fractional skin resurfacing assists in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage and pigmentation revealing rejuvenated skin improving skin tone and texture and facial laxity. This treatment can be used in conjunction with anti-wrinkle and dermal filler treatments.
Scars can also be treated with skin resurfacing treatment to stimulate the regeneration of new cells and ‘soften’ the scar.
Fractional Resurfacing is highly effective in the treatment of acne and may be used in combination with a chemical peel regime for the best results.

Hair Removal
Laser is a highly effective way of removing unwanted hair. Some medical conditions, the cause of growth and hair colour can play a part in the effectiveness of laser hair removal. An initial consultation and patch test is required prior to treatment where the area of the body to be treated and costs can be discussed. Treatment is usually required every 6-8 weeks depending on hair growth and 6-8 treatments are usually required.
Tattoo Removal
If you are looking to remove a tattoo, we can help. An initial consultation and patch test is required to assess the size and depth of the tattoo ink. You will be provided with an estimate of how many sessions you will need, the cost of each treatment and how often you will need to come in for optimum results.
Short pulses of intense light passes through the top layers of skin which shatters the tattoo ink allowing the body to absorb and discard the ink through the body’s immune system.
Facial Spider Veins / Broken Capillaries
Laser light targets and passes through the skin to the affected blood vessel. The heat of the laser eliminates the broken capillary at a cellular level and is naturally broken down by the body.
-
Some redness and heat to the treated area is to be expected and you may experience some blistering or scabs to form.
Pigmentation Removal
This three step treatment is suitable for the removal of sun spots, blemishes, freckles, age spots and UV damage. It usually requires 2-3 treatments 8 weeks apart. Any unusual pigmentation or areas of concern will be referred to our GP, Dr Liz Onley for further investigation.
The laser is passed over the area of concern and assists the body to break up the melanin pigment which is then swept up by the body’s immune system and metabolised out of the body.
-
After treatment you can expect redness and heat in the treated area/s, possible micro shedding and the pigment spots will darken for around a week before dispersing.
Birth Mark Removal
Birthmarks and skin blemishes can be either red or brown. The reddened blemish is from an overgrowth of superficial blood cells and the browner tones are an overgrowth of pigment cells. The laser treats the lesions by targeting blood vessels or pigment and does not cause damage to the surrounding normal tissue. It is a safe and effective way to remove smaller birthmarks.
-
After treatment you could experience mild swelling and bruising with very occasional blistering. It takes around 4-6 weeks for birthmarks to fade away. You should keep the area out of direct sunlight during and after treatment.
Scar Rejuvenation
Skin resurfacing with gentle heat improves the appearance of scars by removing ultra fine layers of scarred skin. This treatment also stimulates the regeneration of new cells, re-establishing the elastin fibres of the skin to soften the scar and even out skin tone, colour and texture. Unfortunately, keloid scars are unable to be treated effectively using this treatment method.
-
This treatment can be slightly uncomfortable due to the depth of the warming of the skin. Cooling is provided during this treatment for the comfort of the patient.
Reducing direct sun exposure after treatment is important for at least seven (7) days after treatment and regular use of sunscreen is advised.
Lip Plumping
Using thermally induced laser energy, the lip area is heated gently creating a tightening and firming effect to the skin surrounding the lips. This treatment stimulates the production of collagen which aids in the appearance of fuller and smoother lips.
-
After treatment, your lips may feel dry and swollen which can be relieved by regularly using a lip moisturising product as recommended. Sun exposure should be avoided.
Body Sculpting and Tightening
This treatment is recommended for patients who struggle to remove small pockets of fat and need help to tighten loose skin despite exercise and dietary efforts. It is not a weight loss solution but is a non-invasive laser treatment that assists with sculpting and skin tightening of the body.
-
You may experience some redness and warmth to the area of treatment.
Micro shedding of the skin and bronzing appearance to the skin for duration of the treatment which will settle within a couple of weeks for final treatment.
We recommend the use of TR Pro+ and Synergie Recovery Balm to assist to heal and repair following the treatment.
Enlarged Pores
With aging, our skin reflects the degeneration of collagen and elastin in our skin. Enlarged pores are caused by our pores dilating with the thickening of our aging skin. These pores can then attract dirt and bacteria which can lead to blackheads, whiteheads and infection. This treatment uses a three step process by polishing, smoothing and enhancing the skins natural healing process to promote lasting results at the cellular level. The tone and texture of your skin will improve after this treatment and can be used in combination with other treatments offered at BMLA. Your skin will need to be protected from the sun for at least two weeks prior to this treatment.
-
We may recommend certain skin products to assist your skin after treatment. Your skin may also feel warm for a few hours after treatment and you will be encouraged to stay out of direct sunlight for at least one week after treatment with regular use of sunscreen.
Rosacea Management
Rosacea is best managed by a combination of laser therapy and chemical peels. Unfortunately, it can never be ‘cured’.
The Laser Therapy part of the treatment will only target the affected tissue and leave surrounding tissue untreated. The laser light heats the affected skin and the cellular waste is then carried out of the body by the immune system.
The Chemical Peel (Salicylic Acid 5%) will calm the affected areas, take away redness and inflammation and help with the rotation of skin cells to combat the condition.
-
Before, during and after treatment it is essential to protect your skin from sun exposure. Regular use of sunscreen is crucial to the success of your treatment. After the laser treatment your skin may feel warm for a few hours and you may experience some skin redness with micro shedding.
A skincare regime may also help combat the symptoms, which our Registered Nurse Kellie can discuss with you at your consultation.
Rhinophyma Management
A long term complication of rosacea can include rhinophyma, a skin disorder that causes the nose to enlarge and become red, bumpy and bulbus. This can be managed using local anaesthetic and laser therapy that shaves away the abnormal tissue returning the nose to near its original appearance.
-
It is usual to get a scabbed wound that can take a couple of weeks to heal. You may be recommended skincare products that will assist in your recovery.
Nail Fungus (Onychomycosis)
Onychomycosis is a common fungal nail infection that can affect the nails on the toes and/or fingers. The nails become thick and discoloured (black, yellow or green) and this can be caused by several factors such as age, health, occupation and location.
It is easily treated by laser therapy that evenly heats through the depth of the nail and skin tissue, effectively weakening and killing the fungal infection. The treatment is quick, and simple and does not involve ointments or medications. The effects of the treatment will become evident when new nail growth occurs.
-
After treatment you could experience mild swelling and bruising with very occasional blistering. It takes around 4-6 weeks for birthmarks to fade away. You should keep the area out of direct sunlight during and after treatment.
Snoring and Sleep Apnea
Snoring is the sound of soft tissues at the back of your throat vibrating as you breathe. This can interrupt sleep patterns which has a flow on effect in our daily lives – not to mention your partners lives as well!
Our laser treatment gently heats the tissue at the back area of the soft palate causing a tightening and strengthening of the tissue. This strengthening helps to reduce or can even eliminate snoring, giving you and your partner a better night’s sleep, improving quality of life.
-
It is recommended you avoid hot drinks after treatment as you may experience some dryness or scratchy feelings in the back of your throat. Pain relief can be taken if required.
Psoriasis & Eczema Management
Eczema and Psoriasis are genetic conditions that cannot be ‘cured’, but with good management, discomfort can be reduced.
Ultraviolet B (UVB) phototherapy or low level laser therapy can be used to reduce skin itch, increase Vitamin D production and increase the bacterial fighting systems in the skin, reducing the inflammatory effect of these conditions. This treatment can reduce the need for the use of prescription and over the counter creams and ointments. With the aid of photo therapy, eczema and psoriasis can be placed into a dormant state for a long period of time.
If a flare up occurs, BMLA can help with further treatments as needed. Synergie Recovery Balm is recommended to help symptoms as a topical ointment.

You will need to remember the following after your treatment:
• avoid picking or scratching the treated area
• avoid very hot baths, showers or saunas
• hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water
• use a 30+ or high SPF sunscreen.
Lesion Removal
(Warts / Skin Tags)
Skin Tags are small excess growth of skin which can be caused from rubbing of skin on skin or clothing. Only one treatment is required for skin tag removal, however, if you have a number of skin tags it may be recommended that you attend treatment more than once to stagger the removal process.
Warts are a common viral infection caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and are particularly common in childhood. They can seem unsightly, and many people decide to remove them. Laser removal is a quick and easy way of removing warts. It destroys the wart virus at the specific site and removes the blood supply to the wart removing its ability to regrow and the immune system is triggered by the localised inflammation removing the destroyed wart cells from the body.
This treatment is often performed using a local anaesthetic.

Pain Relief –
Low Level Laser
Low Level Laser Treatment (LLLT) is a therapeutic treatment that is an ideal therapy for musculo-skeletal pain, tissue healing and sports injuries. It can be used to treat arthritic pain, TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction), hip or shoulder bursitis, lower back pain, tendonitis, neuropathic pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis and can reduce the volume and pain in lymphoedema. It has been proven to accelerate wound healing, including ulcers, following surgery and after trauma. It does this by reducing inflammation, relieving pain and promoting accelerated tissue regeneration at the cellular level.
There is no downtime, it is non-invasive and helps to stimulate and support the body’s natural healing processes. It may reduce the need for medications in some conditions.
A course of treatments is required.
-
The repairing and healing process takes time and it is recommended that you do not try to do things that you couldn’t do before to prevent re-injury. Tracking your pain is important, as your consultant will need to know how the treatment is progressing.
